Following the release of Myopia in 2020, this new album was written, recorded, arranged and produced entirely in Obel’s Berlin studio. Across 12 atmospheric, genre-defying tracks, The Meaning of Flowers captures a period of profound personal and creative transformation. Inspired by the birth of her first child, Obel explores themes of natality, interconnectedness and metamorphosis, reflecting on how new life reshapes the body, the mind and one’s relationship to the wider world. Her new music draws on a broad range of sources, from the poetry of Enheduanna (the world’s first named author) and the ideas of philosophers Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia, to the Danish pop scene of the 80s and 90s. ‘No Such Thing as Silence’ Lyrics: Oh why Oh why Would you wanna lie and cover me? Would you wanna lie and cover me? I’m amazed I’m amazed You say you wore silence That you never had someone to rely on In the age of islands I see you there with no one to rely on What if I would run to where your eyes have gone On a naked sky above the time we’ve lost Behind your eyes I see a trail of dust As if there’s no such thing as silence Before it’s over But nothing is over I’m amazed You say you wore silence, diving into these moments of the past In the age of islands a mind has to have A moment to relax What if I would run to where your eyes have gone On a naked sky above the time we’ve lost Behind your eyes I see a trail of dust As if there’s no such thing as silence Before it’s over But nothing is over Do you cover every signal, every wave? Do you cover?
