This award winning Canadian multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter is back after a few year hiatus from the music scene. What started out as a demo - took flight with a full studio production with 13 original tunes written over a 3 year period. Performed by: Ted, Eric & Gabrielle Jablonski, Scott Munro, Lorrie Matheson, Monique Courcelles & Malcolm Dort Produced by: Lorrie Matheson & dr j Recorded & Engineered by Lorrie Matheson at Arch Audio Calgary, Alberta, Canada March 2013 Mastered by Allen Hunnie Audio Manufactured by Polar Bear Productions Ltd PGM 009 Here's the pre-recording notes of all the songs - some insightful background...... The title of this music project “just desserts” is a totally unfair play on words – not all the protagonists deserved what they got and not all the songs are simple under produced “sweet treats” – but somehow it fits….. 1. STUMBLIN’ (4:39) - a wistful autobiographical tune written while on a beach in Mexico pondering life, elusive goals, potential decisions and the inevitable losses of aging – DAMN!! 2. PRAIRIE SKY (3:52) – a simple prairie love song – a little folky tune under a big lazy sky. 3. LONG WINTER NIGHT (3:50) – a song of loneliness and longing, echoes of the tune snowflake but with a bit of fight left within those frostbitten bones. 4. HURRICANE (4:13) – written in the voice of the only surviving member in a murder-suicide of a Calgary family - father killed wife and kids and himself but left one infant child alive. This is a defiant statement from the surviving child - now a dysfunctional adult. 5. SNOWFLAKE (2:59) – a haunting simple tune of lost love – cold, bare and truly alone. 6. SECOND (CHANCE) (3:52) – written for a fund raising concert after a long drought of non-performance. A renewed promise and dedication to the arts amidst progressive loss of hearing and increasingly “out of the loop” aging process (let me wipe away a tear….) 7. TINY ANGEL (3:37) – written in the voice of the woman who pushed and killed a teenager on the Calgary C-Train tracks in 2010. Now pregnant and on parole, she spews this unapologetic alcohol infused manifesto to no one in particular. 8. TURNED OFF THE STARS (3:20) – an R+Bish song inspired by a few unconnected newspaper headlines in 2012. 9. HERE and NOW (2:52) - a recurring theme of “dr j” - light and bouncy, a hippie-esque urging to live in the moment. 10. FIST OF TEARS (4:05) – inspired by the succession of suicides of NHL enforcers. This lament conveys the story of a small town boy caught up and eventually ruined by the grandiose hoopla of the “big show”. 11. WATER ON THE MOON (2:55) – a musical epitaph a la Sgt. Pepper for a friend/fellow musician/patient who died from an aggressive brain tumour, tragically leaving a wife and young family behind. 12. LET THE WATER HEAL (4:58) – a plea to a relative recently diagnosed with breast cancer – a prayerful anthem of hope and healing. 13. NINE (5:14) - written in the voice of a dying 9-year old girl (Christina-Taylor Green) who was inadvertently shot and killed when American Senator Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head in Tucson AZ. It is a macabre, haunting yet somewhat dreamy “love song” of an innocent child – bare, raw emotion.
