Sitaare, formerly known as Surtaal, is UCSD’s award-winning co-ed South Asian a capella group. We focus on giving singers a platform to create and perform music without the aid of instruments. Since 2006 we have engaged in light-hearted vocal mischief and performed at numerous community events in the San Diego area as well as in the Bay. Our repertoire consists mainly of South Asian pop and film music, along with the occasional English R&B or pop piece. The singers on Iktaara, Sitaare's debut album, are Sushmitha Divakar, Lavanya Kumar, Payal Desai, Shruti Patel, Harsha Viswanathan, Nirati Gautam, Sneha Challa, Sangeeta Prabhakar, Lakshmi Vijanderan, Devesh Vashishtha, Raghav Paliwal, Sajaan Bhakta, Arvin Wali, Jay Gokhale, Pranav Dixit, and Arohi Sharma. The album was recorded by Pablo Nieves and Aldrin Payopay. The album artwork was created by Shreha Jain.
