First things first, let’s just smooooooth it out. I know you’re tired. You’ve tried and tried to get down with those same old jams, to find something that was truly worth shaking that God-gifted piece of perfection to, but it ain’t no use. You’re sick of tryin. You need 100 CC’s of class and sass and you need it right quick. Wipe away those tears, little one. The wait is over. Carly and The Universe has arrived. What’s that? You hadn’t heard? Well don’t go beatin yourself up over it. This hot little soul-pop outfit has just hit the Los Angeles scene. They’ve got just the right amount of that classic soul, and a perfect splash of that special somethin new, to get those feet movin from here til kingdom come. Let me break down the band for you real quick. See my girl Carly Liza, she’s got a set of pipes that make angels jealous. My man Mike Post jangles that guitar real fast and loose, sexy-like. Cameron Clarke beats up them drums so good they took out a restraining order on his a**. Simon Sverdlov got struck by a bolt of lightning, and when he came to he was holding a PhD in playing piano like a f*ckin genius. And that weird cat Spencer King, well. I heard the weatherman went on the air about some kinda freak apocalyptic thunderstorm, but turns out Spenny was just next door doin some warmups. And you think I forgot about them horn players? I did NOT forget about them horn players! Musicians are strange cats, you know? They come together in all kindsa strange sorta ways. So when these dudes heard these sweet, sexy, strange little love songs that Carly had wrote, well they did their thing and that was that. Magic. So they did what these cats do - they made themselves a record. Not just any old record, mind you - Mike Post himself put those wizard fingers on a nice old Neve and produced some of the most authentic soul sounds that ever rang across these sun-soaked hills. At least, that’s what I think. But why don’t you find out for yourself? The Whole Shabang, the first full-length album from Carly and the Universe, is out November 1st, 2014 at Echoes Under Sunset. Mark your calendars; it’s time to get down.
