"Lies Synthpop Told Me" is the second full-length LP of Buffalo synthpop artist Spruke. Opening with the furiously peppy single "Morning Sex", the first half of this album explores the fun-filled illusions that pop music teaches us about true love and living happily ever after. The latter half of the album peels back the dreams and uncovers that the promises were empty. A shiny, bright, clean and upbeat volley of cheerful songs pepper the front end of this release, while the far side is full of ominous and foreboding downers, before closing with the epic tribute to depressing acceptance that is "All My Dreams Are Nightmares". In past releases, Spruke's genre and categorization have veered across all genres, and this album finally sees him tightening up his style to focus in on a core sound that "Lies Synthpop Told Me" firmly establishes as his true voice.
