This piano/vocal performance from the Just Play Music™ Holiday Episode was one of the first songs recorded for the series. Done in the traditional style of the master of deep-voiced vocalizing, Thurl Ravenscroft, you can really appreciate the perfect blend of lyric and music, along with the interesting (but simple) chord progression and the very tasteful use of a diminished chord as it segues between verses. Stripped of orchestra and theatrical production, you can really feel the dark side of this tune, and yet it still feels like it belongs at Christmas time. And, as is always the case with Just Play Music™, this is a one-off performance; you can even hear a little laughter between some of the insane verses! It's pure fun, pure Dr. Seuss magic, and it's a welcomed addition to the JPM catalog.
