The theme of this album is obvious from the title: Never Too Far. God is never too far from us. But here’s the part I might get strange looks for. Sometimes it feels like God has abandoned us, doesn’t it? It’s okay that your heart is screaming, “YES!” but your mind is saying, “No! I can’t say that!” I won’t make you say it. I’ll say it. In reality, though God is always with us, He can also be silent. This makes us, or maybe it’s just me, feel abandoned! I have learned over my years of being a Christian that no matter how much scripture seems to be wrong about something at the time, it is always right. Always. So when I began to write this record, I had a lot going on in my life. You know how it goes. Life just happens, right? I remember sitting at the piano in the most broken state I have ever found myself in, and I began to just be honest with God. We forget that it’s okay, but it is. I began to sing something I found myself doubting. I began to sing the truth that I couldn’t make myself believe. “When I’m walking through the valley, I know Your angels surround me In the day or in the night, in the darkness, in the light You’re never too far from me” I was singing something that I knew but didn’t believe. Is that the case with you today? Singing the truth of scripture over a time that made scripture seem false brought the clarity of the days to come. I was encouraged as I found more and more hope in Christ. I recreated the night that I wrote “Never Too Far” for you at the end of this record. My hope is that you too can find yourself singing the truth that you are not alone, even if you feel that you are. God is never too far from you.
