简介
Looking at composer and bassist Julie Slick’s musical resume is like flicking through a classic rock lover’s cherished LP collection—or their iTunes Cover Flow. Just a few of the luminaries she’s recorded and performed with include Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Jon Anderson (Yes), Ann Wilson (Heart), Alice Cooper, and Adrian Belew (King Crimson). She’s also renowned for her contributions to alternative rock acts in her local Philadelphia scene including Cheers Elephant, Sweetheart and Love Gravy. Now, it’s Slick’s turn to step into the spotlight with her self-titled debut album. The all-instrumental release is a seamless blend of progressive rock, jazz-fusion, funk, electronica, avant-garde, and world music influences. The album features an incredible ensemble comprised of Slick’s friends, including King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp and drummer Pat Mastelotto, drummer Marco Minnemann (Paul Gilbert, Kreator, Eddie Jobson), drummer and brother Eric Slick (Dr. Dog), Chapman Stick player Michael Bernier (Stick Men), and guitarist André Cholmondeley (Project Object). Slick’s musical journey is truly amazing. She began studying music at the Paul Green School of Rock from its inception in 1998 through 2004. It was an experience that equipped her with the tools to perform complex music at an early age. In fact, by the time she was 19 she had already worked with Copeland, Anderson, Willson, Cooper, Murphy Brock (Frank Zappa), Ike Willis (Frank Zappa), and The California Guitar Trio. In 2005, Slick and her brother Eric joined the Adrian Belew Power Trio. The group has released three albums to date, Side Four, E and the iTunes exclusive Live Overseas. It has also performed to sold-out houses across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Turkey. A complete concert by the trio was featured on the legendary Live at the Rockpalast show and aired across Europe in 2008. During select, recent Adrian Belew Power Trio gigs in Canada and Russia, Slick also played double- and triple-bass with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel bassist Tony Levin and Primus’ Les Claypool. Just a few of the media outlets that have covered her work with the group include Bass Player, Guitar Player, Drumhead, All About Jazz, and No Treble.
