Journal entry, March, 2005: "Well…guess what? I decided on a career. My goal is to be a singer and to record and write music." 10 years later that revelation is becoming a reality. Joannah did not grow up wanting to be a singer from the age of three, but the power of music has always been a part of her life and her imagination. Becoming more prominent during the challenging high school years, the language of music called to her and changed her life. Since then, the desire to create and sing music has been a passion. She began her journey and studied vocal performance at Trinity Christian College in Chicago. After obtaining a Masters in Art Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint in 2012, a college friend asked Joannah, twice, to write a song for a film he had written, directed, and produced. For two years, she spent crafting the song, “Nepenthe.” The hauntingly beautiful “Nepenthe,” featured at the end of the film Shades of Darkness, is about a man, wandering in a world of eternal night, who finds himself hunted by a mysterious figure. Joannah loves listening to other artists who break genre and style boundaries within music. She will listen to almost anything at least twice and loves all styles of music including New Age, Classical, Rock, Pop, World, Electronic, and Experimental. Joannah plans to write more music and is currently preparing for a concert of Renaissance music she will be performing in the fall of 2015.
